How to consign

We have found that many people hold onto their quality clothing well past the time they are finished wearing it. They are unwilling to donate it due to the considerable amount of money that they have invested in them. They also want to avoid haggling at a garage sale with people that only want to pay a dollar for your gorgeous, “worn once”, Ann Taylor suit! This often times results in a closet full of out of date clothing that no one is benefiting from!

It is for THIS reason that consignment works. You can’t lose! You bring your quality clothing to US. We then price it, with full knowledge of the very BEST resale price we can get for your items. Once they sell (and we have a very HIGH resale rate!!) YOU get paid for it! If your items do not sell – you get them back! EASY.

Here is the scoop!

Clothing should be store ready – we want to be able to immediately input your item and put it on the floor so it can start selling. You can bring clothing in on hangers or items that are nicely folded will be fine as well. Please take care that all items are free of stains, rips and odors.

For the most part, we accept all seasons of clothing. Please be aware that people in Portland, Oregon purchase clothing according to what the weather is for THAT day. When we run into a stretch of SUN, we tend to accept more “sunny” clothing. Please, bring in any item you would like us to consider - we will always let you know if we feel the time isn’t quite right for certain items and when the right time would be so you could bring it back.

Each item we accept from you will be counted and noted in your own computer data file that we create at your initial consignment. As your items sell, this account is credited. We welcome phone calls or emails from you at ANY time to check on your account status.

We accept anything a woman owns - clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry, perfume, lotions and even more! If you would like, check out the page of Brands we are looking for to get a better idea.

Our consignment term is 90 days. We will do all we can to sell your item at the BEST price possible. Please trust that we will determine the best price for each item. We have over 8 years of experience selling clothing and are able to use this knowledge to sell your items. If we feel your item would do better online, we will take advantage of the various online avenues to make that sale. You will find that we are very hard working, motivated sellers!

On the 15th of every month the items due to expire in the same month go on sale to 50% off.

Once your item sells, you have two options, you can choose a check for 40% of your total earnings, or 60% of your total earnings in store credit! Many prefer to spend their earnings as credit for “new clothing!”

If your item doesn’t sell during your 90 day consignment period, you can remove it off the floor and take it home with you. We do remove all items that have not sold or that have not been picked up within the 90 day period each month. At this time, they become the property of My Girlfriend’s Closet and will be subject to donation or resale at a later date.

We understand the pain a women endures parting with personal clothing and other items, that is why we make the process PAINLESS, we don’t want you to walk away miserable.

That is why we offer a walk in door policy, no appointment is needed, bring in your “stuff” and we will happily go through it!!
